International standards of fair trial and compensation mechanisms: educational vector of the NSJU
On February 10, 2026, Nataliia Shuklina, Vice-Rector of the National School of Judges of Ukraine, together with the School's team of experts, held a working meeting with Hanna Khristova, Head of the Kyiv Office of the International Registry of Damage Caused by the Russian Federation's Aggression against Ukraine.
The focus was on expanding cooperation in 2026 and developing specialized educational events for judges on the consideration of cases concerning compensation for damage caused by the Russian Federation's armed aggression against citizens and legal entities in Ukraine.

During the meeting, the parties focused on organizing and holding a round table dedicated to discussing the current state of the Register of Damages, mechanisms for submitting applications, and coordinating interaction between state institutions, the expert community, and civil society.

In addition, a series of webinars was planned to review international standards for compensation for damage and mechanisms for the payment of reparations, analyze the current state of compensation instruments at the international and national levels, taking into account the legal positions of national courts in cases concerning compensation for damage, as well as assessing the effectiveness of existing compensation mechanisms and the problems of their practical implementation.
The cooperation between the National School of Judges of Ukraine and the Office of the International Register of Damages is aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation in the field of recording and accounting for damage caused by armed aggression against Ukraine, as well as raising judges' awareness of the mechanisms of the Register and further international compensation procedures.
