The NSJU expands international partnerships for training judges in war crimes cases
On 12 September 2025, Natalia Shuklina, Acting Rector of the National School of Judges of Ukraine, held a working meeting with the team of the International Institute of Law in Siracusa – Director Filippo Musca, Deputy Director Celine Vigier, and Senior Legal Advisor Alessia Gualtieri.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged information about their activities and outlined areas of possible cooperation within the framework of the Institute's project on the investigation of war crimes.
The priorities of the partnership include: conducting research in the field of international criminal law, human rights and criminal justice; organising training programmes, seminars, conferences and workshops for judges, prosecutors, lawyers and other justice professionals; cooperation with international organisations, in particular the UN, the Council of Europe and the European Union, in the development and implementation of international legal standards; support for states in the process of improving criminal legislation, increasing the efficiency of the judicial system and combating organised crime, as well as corruption and terrorism.
The parties agreed to work on the initiatives discussed and to develop a detailed plan for their implementation.
Tetyana Fuley, Viktoria Semenyuk and Yelyzaveta Kovtyuk also participated in the meeting on behalf of the NSJU.
The Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights is an independent research institution established in 1972 in Siracusa, Italy. The Institute is a recognised international centre for the study of criminal law, human rights and the strengthening of the rule of law.
The Institute plays a leading role in the development of international criminal law, particularly in the process of establishing and developing the International Criminal Court. It actively cooperates with governmental and non-governmental organisations, academic institutions, national schools of judges and international expert networks.
